Linus Torvalds is a Finnish-American software engineer best known as the creator of the Linux operating system kernel and the Git version control system. He is one of the most influential figures in the world of open-source software.

In 1991, while still a student, Torvalds began working on a personal project—a free operating system kernel. He posted about it on an online forum, asking for help and feedback. That project became the Linux kernel, which is now at the heart of:

Today, Linux powers much of the modern internet and computing infrastructure.

Linux is an Operating System like Windows , Unix etc. It was introduced by Linus Torvalds with the help of GNU (General Public License).

Linux Source code was free to access , view, modify and redistribute by anyone which is later called Open Source Code.

The kernel of the linux operating system is the core of operating system. It manages the communication between hardware and software.

Linux is used in Android, web servers, cloud infrastructure, routers, , super computers, cars and so on.

One another remarkable work by the Linus Torvalds is the creation of Git. Git is a distributed version control system.

Git was developed to solve many collaboration and version control issues. Now it widely used in the world for version control system.

Linux is known for its security features in the world and that is why it is used in most of the web servers and super computers.

A girl named Tove came into his life, who has been the Finnish national karate champion 6 times. She met Torvalds in 1993.

It so happened that Torvalds set up a computer laboratory exercise for his students and asked them to send him an email as a test.

Then Tove asked Torvald for a date through email and the talk went ahead with him and later Torvalds got married with her. He also has two daughters.

Linus Torvalds developed his interest in scuba diving in the early 2000s and earned several certifications.

He has been awarded many times for his excellent work. In 2000 he was awarded as “The Most Important People of the Century poll by the Time magazine.

1. Linus Torvalds created the Linux kernel (1991)

2. Red Hat built an operating system using that kernel

Red Hat, founded in 1993, is a company that built and sold enterprise Linux distributions based on Linus’s Linux kernel.
Their most famous product is Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

3. They work in the same ecosystem, not directly together

Linus doesn’t work for Red Hat.
However, many Red Hat employees contribute code to the Linux kernel.
Red Hat is one of the largest corporate contributors to Linux, second only to companies like Intel or Google in some years.
